All training is delivered by a nationally recognised Registered Training Organisation (RTO), ensuring you receive the required knowledge and skills to enter the rail industry confidently.

About the Role

As a Locomotive Driver Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting daily train operations. Your responsibilities will include:
  • Assisting the Locomotive Driver in the safe and efficient operation of freight trains
  • Preparing locomotives for service, including pre-start checks and system testing
  • Coordinating shunting movements, coupling and uncoupling wagons, and assembling trains
  • Promptly reporting faults, issues, or irregularities
  • Complying with all safety protocols and site procedures
The initial classroom-based training will be conducted in Mudgee.
1-week practical training will take place at a live operational site in Werris Creek.

This is a casual role that offers flexibility, with the opportunity to take on more work based on your availability and readiness.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will:
  • Be committed to safety and following procedures
  • Be reliable, punctual, and willing to learn
  • Have sound reading and writing skills to complete training and workplace documentation
  • Communicate effectively and work well as part of a team
  • Be physically fit and able to work outdoors in various conditions
  • Be able to pass a Category 1 Rail Medical, including drug and alcohol screening
  • Be able to complete a Musculoskeletal Fitness Assessment
  • Hold (or be willing to obtain) a First Aid Certificate
  • Hold a Class C or higher Drivers Licence with no restrictions.
